Waste Community Accelerator
The Waste Community Accelerator is an accelerator program that focuses on building the capacity of businesses and small and medium-sized organizations related to handling plastic waste and
recycling / upcycling innovations based in Surabaya and surrounding cities (Sidoarjo, Gresik, Pasuruan, Mojokerto, Ponorogo, Malang). Additionally, the program emphasizes the development of stronger connections among participants in order to strengthen local plastic feedstock value chains. Participants attend a series of workshops and receive intensive consulting from experts to improve the management and capacity of their organizations. Additionally, each participant receives one-on-one mentoring support from the OPPA team.
Eight organisations were part of the first cohort that started in November 2019 and ended in August 2020. The second cohort will run from December 2020 to June 2021. After completing the program, participants receive continued support through OPPA's Waste Systems Change Community group. The purpose of this group is to further strengthen the capacity and connections among a growing number of accelerator alumni which can eventually result into an improved model of the Greater Surabaya waste management ecosystem.
You can learn more about the second cohort curriculum in the program brochure. Information about the cohort 1 participants, as well as a cohort-end report are available below.
